Car shut off at full throttle in 2nd on highway

WTF!

SO I was pulling on the highway and had it wide open in 2nd gear at 5k or so rpm and the car feels like it hit a rev limiter and then shut off

I pulled off tried starting it back up and it tried but just died

Let it sit for 2 min now its working again

What the hell?

aaah the wonderful world of cobalts..
PCM freaks out every now and then and does that... bet you got a p00068 code (or whatever it is for the correlation ****), If you know someone with hp tuners, go to DTC's and change the set rpm to 8k, wont happen again.

Same exact thing happend to me too. Going about 100 and bam car shuts off. Called onstar and they said it was a throttle positioning sensor. Idled like a wrx....Thought there goes the piston rings...but let it sit for 5 mins off and good as new.

im not sure if the tune thats in there right now has that but I know the reflash thats waiting to go on has the P0068 test set to 8k

From doing some reading up on here it seems like i might have hit the inertia switch? But I didnt hit any bumps, I was going up a slight hill and the car does throw you back a lil under full load but it wouldnt seem enough to trip this

If it feels fine just give it a few small pulls. It should be fine. Sounds EXACTLY like my situation and mine turned out fine. Good luck.

Mine did the same thing but i was stopped...I had revved up my car because the lady next to me was being a complete douche bag by turning her music all the way up, light turned green i revved it up kinda high and bam the ****** went to like 500 rpms weird ass idle and just shut down on me.... I went to turn the key a few times, and it just clicked nothing happened....waited a few minutes and it was good to go never did it again....

Its a bad Crank position sensor from what I figure. It has happened to me a total of 3 times, first time the car started up again while coasting down, second time it had to sit for a few minutes, third time I sat for hours and got towed home, then when I tried it after I got home it started. This all happened over the course of almost a year, not back to back. I've since changed the sensor, hasn't happened again. It has only been a few months though...

Don't have the part number at hand, would have to go through my stash of parts in the garage to find the old one in the bag. Its about a 15 min job, it sits right below the oil filter on the front of the block, one 10mm bolt holds it. Easy, just don't drop the bolt, it gets stuck on top of the starter and is a bitch to get out.

Sounds like everyone is experiencing the same thing that I have last summer. It happend to me 3 times over the course of 3 months. After the first 2 times, I changed the crankshaft position sensor, and it happened the third. The first time was in the middle of a busy highway, pulling out from a side road, there was traffic coming both ways towards me lol....Scary i know that!!
