Car won't start
Car won't start
Ok, so I got all the dual-pass stuff done. And it was a real PITA. But now the car won't start. It will crank but not fire. The only thing I can think is that it isn't getting gas for some reason. So I have a few quick questions, is it possible that the relay for the fuel pump could have gone bad? When looking at the fuse box from the front of the car which side of the relay are the numbers on (I had someone helping me and they don't remember when they pulled the relay out if they put it back in the same way - damn cheap help)? Also, I replaced the fuel filter while I had the fuel system depressurized - the two lines on the one side of the filter should both go to the same place so it shouldn't matter which one goes into which hole on the filter, right? The only other thing I could think is that I may only have 3 gallons of gas in the car, is that causing the system not to get pressurized??
Thanks!
Oh and is there anyway to pull the codes to see why it isn't starting without a scan tool?
Ok, well I have some ideas on what is wrong.
1. the fuel pump relay is probably in backwards, or it is bad.
2. Since the car uses a returnless fuel system, the fuel lines maybe connected backwards.
I hope that fixes the problem or I don't know where else to go with this besides having it sent to the shop.
Thanks!

Check all your relays./. could have jostled one loose (Seen it happen more than once) does your fuel pump prime? do you hear it turn on?
you could also see if you're getting fuel pressure from the test port on the fuel rail.

Had this problem after installing injectors. Took me forever to figure it out. Ended up switching the relay with another one in the fuse box and started up just fine. So i switched em back and it still worked. I know i unplugged that relay a dozen times or more to check it and see if it was the problem and i guess the connection was broken enough to not work even though it was plugged in all the way.

Just unscrew that little black cap on the fuel rail and push in the nozzle to see if the line pressurized after turning the car on. BE PREPARED if the line did pressurize then there will be gas that does come out. If the line didn't pressurize and the relay was replaced then i'm outa suggestions.
Sorry,

And poppagun, if I try out some suggestions and nothing works then I will let you know. I am hoping that swapping the lines on the fuel filter or the relay will fix the problem.
To answer your question in the original thread, there is no way to pull codes without a scan tool.
Only other way to pull codes without personaly owning a scan tool is to go and beg the **** out of autozone to let you borrow theres...they might make you put some collateral down....or tow it to the chevy dealership and let them scan it for you.

Alright, thanks for all the help everyone. I checked the fuel pressure and it was 0. Not even a drip. So after checking everything and making sure everything was tight I found the problem! The relay was in wrong - the fuse box is designed so it is really easy to put the fuel pump relay int he wrong spot. So I feel like kind of an idiot, but at least it was an easy fix.
