Exclamation Catalytic Converter out at 600 miles!!! ?

Ive had my 2006 cobalt ss/sc for 4 days and the check engine light came on! I took it to the dealer and they said it was the catalytic converter, they ordered me a new one under warranty and they said it was ok to drive for a few days until it came in. Everything was fine until last night when I gave it a little more gas than normal. The motor will only rev to 5200 before it shuts off and sometimes not even that high. Also at 8 psi it makes a loud wistle almost like the wastegate openning. What are your thoughts on this? is the dealer just telling me a "story" or is it really the cat going out and why would it cut off at 5200? thanx for the help, im not happy.

Sounds like your cat is plugged others have had the same problem. UIf it is plugged badly then you engine can't breathe so it stalls out.

Normally they "overboost" with the clogged cat. I wonder why mostly '06's have this problem?

I also have another question that might be a stupid one but i'm not sure exactly what they are talking about. I read in another post on this site about "A wall" when shifting. They say it's very bad for the tranny because it's a synchro problem. Anyway, could anyone go into more detail about this wall. Is it just that when the you shift the car doesn't seem to produce any power or what? My car might be doing something similar getting on the highway the last few days. It could be cat issues though. huff... thanx

The "wall" is when shifting the shifter stops like it hit a wall and won't go into gear.

Exclamation cobalt s.c problem

Ive been having the same problem as the other guy. When i start my car there is a rattling noise right below me and it sounds like the cat so thats why im thinking its the same problem as the other guy. Also there is a loud whistling sound which is not the supercharger it sounds like a wastegate opening at or around 7-8 psi usually around 5 thousand rpms. I also lose power around this area as well because i have problems getting to the redline because the needle slows down and it doesnt revv as fast. Im thinking that it maybe a boost leak or an O2 sensor or something. PLEASE HELP!!

Yeah, thats very similar to what mine is doing (Not the wall though thank goodness). thats a bummer about the cat. would buying a more expensive/better high flow cat fix the issue or maybe just rmoving it altogether?

Bro your screwed im going through hell right now with my set up cause the cat is the weak link. You can change it out for a high flow cat but'll I'll 100% guarentee that you'll still throw a cat code. And you pull the cat off or gut it an you car with sound like ass cause you'd be surpised how much the stock gm cat muffle sound. What i've decided is **** it gut the cat get an aero force guage and clear the code every two days when it pops up. But check to see if your emmisions renewal is good for 2 years or 4. You don't want to pull it off than have to put a stock one right back on to pass emissions a month later.

Do you think that if i get the corsa cat back system from GM which doesnt void the factory warranty which i planned on doing is a good idea? It would replace the stock one on my car and it would give me more power right?

Yeah but do you think that i should do what I mentioned below? Also i have another idea about this whole cat thing... do you think it is causing the overboost problem because I am spiking at 15psi and its robbing my car of boost I think it is because of the backpressure from the cat, please answer both of my questions if anyone sees them, thanks man.

you are correct sir it is causing your over boost did the same thing to me. I was hitting 15 psi stock pulley but was getting my ass busted by much slower cars. Pluse cat smeeled like ass after any really hard runs sometimes.

you chage that cat you'll regret it and waste money. Just delete it or gut it and find a method to delete the code every two days with a scanner or aero force guage like im gonna do.

Unhappy

So, I gave in and drove it to school today and had a hell of a time getting on the highway. The wastegate starts wistling at like 3500 and it starts to lose a lot of power at like 4200. My cat is coming this week but it sux not driving my new car! Oh and if this happens again couldn't I just remove the cat completely or drill it out? Would my car still be giving me a cel?

ha, that's funny. You know they are required to replace that for up to 8 years eh? Whether it's your fault or not, they have to replace it, it's part of federal emissions standards.
