CD player is junk
CD player is junk
My 06 SS/SC started having problems with the CD player at 35980 miles, while I was on a 800 mile road trip. When I would eject a CD, it wouldn't eject and the stereo would say CHECK DISK. I would have to try 5-6 times before it would work.
When I got to my destination, I was almost 800 miles over my warranty expiration. I got the dealership to replace the stereo under a "good will" warranty. They put a brand new stereo in it. I left the dealership and visited with family in the area for a few more days. Then I left to head home, another 800 mile road trip. I got an hour down the freeway, and the new stereo started doing the same thing. When I got home, my dealership wouldn't fix it for free because at this point I was over 2000 miles over the warranty. Now the car has 40k miles and the CD player won't eject a disk at all. I have to fight with it 20+ times and then sometimes it comes out.
Anyone else have this problem?

I think I'm going to pull the face off and see if I can see what it is getting hung up on and maybe remove it. You can look in there and see the CD, its almost like it is catching on the inside of the slot that it comes out of. If I can find a fix for it, I'll let you know what I did.

Well, I pulled the stereo out yesterday and tore it apart. I detached the face from the stereo and I could see what the problem was. With the face removed, it would eject the CD normally. So, the problem was with the face. The "slot" that you insert the disk into was warped on the inside, which caused the disk to hang up on it. I took some small needle nose pliers and bent the plastic back a little bit on the bottom, but not too much or it will interfere with reattaching the face to the stereo. Then, I took a small x-acto knife and trimmed away some of the plastic on the top half of it. I put it all back together and it works like new. It took about an hour to do. Just be careful you don't damage the circuit board removing it from the face. There are some tiny screws that can be lost easily, so be careful.
Good luck.
Good luck.
I already had mine replaced under warranty the first time, then it started doing it again in less than a week. I think that the new stereo that they ordered didn't come with a new face plate, so they may have used my stock face plate, which is what was causing the problem. I was thinking about going after market, but last I heard, there wasn't a setup that allowed me to use my hands free phone/Onstar and the steering wheel mounted controls. I'm sure there is something out now, but how expensive?
