Check engine light?

So today I was driving with my friend, it was the first time he rode in my car so I decided to show him how fast it was. My car was still cold and knew I should take it easy but I floored it anyway and NLS into 3rd I get a flashing CEL so I figured it was a missfire. I pull into the store we were going to (we were right around the corner). And when I come back to the car and restart it the CEL was still on and solid.

So when I got home I called onstar and they told me that the emission control system malfunctioned and I should go to the dealer to get it serviced. So what did I blow an o2 sensor?

ive done that, could be a case of just "over revving" ur car, its happened to me a few times, just let the car sit for a while and go back and if its still there, wait over night, then if its still there, take it to the dealer, but sounds like a classic case of over rev specially if the engine was still not at operating temp. but i could be wrong

That was my first guess, also happened to me before but it turned off soon after which is why I was curious, We were just going for a coffee run at work, and I just got home this happened about 2hrs ago and when I got home it was still on. If its still on tommorow I'll bring it in
