Unhappy Check engine light after the fan mod!

Damn... I was beginning the fan mod today. Because I didnt have all the necessary wires, I just used the "FAN1" part of the job. What I mean is that I simply removed the "FAN1" relay so I could jump it with a switch. When the swtich was on, both of the fans runed at 50%. When the switch was off, no fan turned on. That's ok, until I started the car. Only ONE fan went at 100%, the other one didnt function at all. Plus, few minutes later, I got a CEL. So even if the swtich was off, the fan continued to be at 100%. When it was on, BOTH fans went at 100%.

The fan which runs, when the switch is turned off, only stop when the car is stopped after like 10-15 seconds. This isn't cool, and I tried anything safe (unpluging one of the 3 relays which control the fans, or all of them or two of them, etc) and the problem remains.

****! What to do now?? It seems like the computer is all mixt-minded...

you have the wires jumped wrong, you need to put the relay in with the set up

i.e. have relay but on the correct wires put a switch, so the fans function as intended but can stay on 100% when needed

i dont suggest this mod, get tuned for lower fan temps...if not an option then you dont have the mods necessary to hack your wiring

Thanx Jap, but I don't understand why my wires would be jumped wrong! I did the exact same jumping than on this picture https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/atta...9&d=1150525183 except I did it ONLY for the "FAN1" for the instance. All worked well BEFORE I started the car. Once the car was started (completely, not only when the car key contact was at "on"), all the logical got screwed i.e.: both fans at 50% when on and both fans off when off.

Okay its okay anyway! I got this solved! But is that possible to do this fan mod without throwing up a CEL, without using the relays at all?
