cleaning rims?

Ok so I tried to clean my rims with soap and water and the dirt is still on there.. I scrub and dirt won't come off. But I used my finger when they were dry and the dirt cane right off. How can I get rid of the dirtyness?? They are matte black rims. Any preceded methods to cleaning them? Advice? Thanks

buy an actual wheel cleaner, such as

Adam's Green Wheel Cleaner 36 oz

or

Turbo Wax :: Tire & Wheels :: Turbo Wax Wheel Cleaner(16oz)

soap and water will not always be heavy enough to take of something like baked on brake dust, which is probably what it is. Once you get the stuff off be sure to wash your wheels every time you wash the car so that the dirt doesn't have a chance to set in too much. The longer brake dust sits the harder it is to remove

Armor All's Wheel and Tire Cleaner works immaculately. Takes the dirt right off, as well as the dirt on the tire that you can't see.

Hmm will try it too if these don't work.. I was thinking of painting my rims though. They are black and would like them grey or silver. What paint could I use?
