Exclamation Clunk noise from transmission

There has been a cluncking noise in around the engine of my car for a few months now. Today I took it to my mechanic (a friend of mine) to have it pre checked to see if i should take out my prothane tranny mounts before I go in for my appointment at the gm dealer friday. He put the car on the hoist and checked it out(it does it when you let out on the clutch) and he told me its in the transmission. I puzzled, i baby my car don't drive it real hard, maybe once in a blue moon. What do I do? Should I leave the mounts in and take it in that way or take them out. My mechanic says leave them in, that it shouldn't void the warrenty. Just want some opinions. Thanks in advance.

Would say make your car as stock as you can and take it to the dealer.

It would be difficult to find this via search unless you typed in the perfect search string. As for the tranny mounts, your dealership would have to be total dicks about it. I've never once had an issue with my dealership about mods, as long as I was upfront with them about them. If you have the extended warranty, they really don't care, because the warranty work (parts and labor) are covered by a third party insurer.

But if your deal has in the past had issues with mods, remove them, sometimes it's best to take that extra precaution, but if you have the extended warranty, I wouldn't even worry about it. You could have a bucket of mud attached to the end of your intake and they don't give a **** if it's extended warranty.

My car clicks like that too... has since new... it's just normal operation.

Again... I hate the thought of some mindless tech crawling all over my car or beating the hell out of in on a "test drive" trying to chase down some ghost noise that's just normal.

That's a TOTALLY different problem than what the OP is posting about. That thread refers to the "click" you hear when you start to push in the clutch. That's normal, it's the switch to disengage the cruise.

THIS problem is with a noise in the transmission itself, which I also believe is normal, I've heard it on almost every SS/SC I've driven. It happens when you start to let the clutch OUT (not in like the other thread) and the clutch begins to grab. It's an actual THUMP (or clunk as the OP described it...way different than a click) that you hear when the clutch grabs.

If you want to take it in, take it in. But like I said I've heard this noise in probably 5 different SS/SCs both stock and aftermarket clutches, which leads me to think it's normal for these cars.

That's exactly why I never took mine in for the thump noise. I've heard it in a lot of other SS's, therefore I'm really not worried about it. I'd rather live with a common noise than have them rip something apart and end up with a whole new problem.

it's true, they give it pure hell when they test drive it. when i got my S2 installed, my car came back hotter then it was when i first got to the dealership (like 50 miles..) and it was just test drove for 5 minutes...

Also... I'm really beginning to hate these thread titles "Attention SS/SC Owners!" or "SS/SC Owners Read This!" or "Very Important Read Now!"

The authors use crap like that to make it sound like a super huge major problem that they are the first to ever experience. It ALWAYS turns out to be some minor bullshit that we've all seen posted on here a million times before.

So unless your car catches fire or your supercharger explodes when you are sitting at a light. Pick a better title PLEASE! It's a little clicking noise... not the end of the world here.

Take it to the Dealer but remove the mount 1st or they will say that is why the tranny is acting up.

LOL that sounds more like the click of the axel when you start/stop the car. Either that or the steering or suspension thumps.

Damn it. So many noises, so many ways to be easily confused. We need a sticky that says "If you're hearing several clicks and a couple clunks under daily driving conditions, remain calm - all is well and your car is functioning as it should...."

+1

Welcome to owning a Chevy. If you wanted a quiet ride you should have bought a Honda.

Something different:

1) There is a click at the top of the clutch pedal when you first engage it, that's the cruise control switch.

2) There is OCCASIONALLY a click at the bottom of the pedal if it's pushed alllllll the way in, that's the ignition interlock switch.

3) When letting the clutch out, there is a THUMP that you can hear when the clutch engages. Usually doesn't matter whether it's stock or aftermarket clutch, but it happens a lot when engaging the clutch in 1st.

4) There is a click heard in the wheel under significant acceleration or deceleration, no one seems to be positive on what this is. Could be axels, could be CV joints, could be a lot of things.

Now if you have a constant clicking at idle, that's not something I know of to be a "known" noise with these cars so it's not "normal". I've heard rumblings that on 2.2s that the timing chain cover can become loose and cause a clicking noise, but I've never heard it.

I have a clunk noise too, just one clunk tho, when I'm at a stop with the clutch all the way in, and either go into first or second gear. Now If I'm rolling slightly it doesn't make a sound. Just when I'm waiting for the light to turn green and put it in gear right before I go...maybe I don't have the clutch completely down? The car doesn't lurch forward or anything, can just feel the clunk slightly...
