Clutch and Gearbox problems
Clutch and Gearbox problems
I got about 12000 miles on my TC . I did a burnout and tried launch control a few times and now my clutch feels softer and engages quicker than usual and it shakes when im releasing even at 3-4000 rmp. And now when i shift my gears, i get a weird grinding feel and sound in the first three gears. Somebody please help me with this
Anyway, to explain my problem in more detail my TC will at times refuse to enter 1st-3rd gear until I first re-shift into a different gear. When it does shift, I hear a faint grinding noise. The odd thing is, the harder I drive it, the easier the shifts. It is around town that it is having all of the problems. Vibrations in the shifter are getting out on control as well. It didn't feel like this when I first got it so I set up an appointment for early December to have it checked out.
Unless BoostedYards86's flaming ass has something else of value to add, please give me your input. Anyone else with these problems?
First off, if you think doing burnouts on stock tires is a good idea, you should probably trade the car in before you break it.
It sounds like you blew up a synchro. BoostedYards86 was right, even if he was being somewhat dickish.
Just because the car has launch control doesn't mean the car won't break if you use it. Pay to play - it's an abuse situation, so good luck getting the warranty work.
Are you serious? You should probably be banned for being such an arrogant *******.
The TC comes with launch control for a reason, and it isn't to ignore it.

You're from Michigan... you're trans fluid is cold as ****, so your Trans is shifting rough. My SS/SC does it every winter.
TAKE IT EASY IN THE WINTER! Don't be mean to the gears... shift her easy. Trust me.
Everyone else needs to just shut up. If he "blew" a synchro... it wouldn't be a faint grinding. It would be a loud as ****, can't get it into gear, what the **** is this things problem grinding. Trust me, I've been there.

wow haha ban me because i was blunt and straight forward with ya, watever newb. It was late and I was a bit more blunt than usual but wow man. You should have known that was coming. The OP said he was doing burnouts and the like. And just cause you have launch control doesn't mean that its great for the car cough:R35 GTR:cough... Launching might be the most stressful thing on any car period and your doing burnouts and wondering why the tranny isn't feeling right. And yes generally when its cold out the trans fluid is warm enuf to be shifting fast. You have to learn to ease it into whatever gear until things warm up...
I'm not in Michigan right now but it is cooling down so I'll keep that in mind, thanks. I make sure to really take it easy until it warms up usually. Anyway, I have probably launched the car three times ever - this absolutely shouldn't be enough to really hurt the car (This isn't my daily driver). Also, on contrary to the other guy, I have never burned out just to do it - not enough rubber for that. It isn't like I am launching from every stop. If people on this forum are honestly going to tell me that they have NEVER launched their TC/SC I am calling bullshit right now. Does anyone have any idea why the harder I drive it, the easier it shifts?
Well everything seems to be ok, clutch feels fine and gears switch smoothly, the burning smell has dissipated and i rarely smell it. and to that comment, I can drive *******, i wasnt abusing it for the last time, iv done it plenty times before with no problems, im guessing it was cause of the cold weather it was like 20F out when i did it. Im taking her easy through the winter, and going to install a better clutch kit in the spring to help maintain burnouts on this 4cyl car.
yup keep doing burnouts.... and wonder why pieces of your trans eventually come out to say hi!. good idea. Good clutch or bad clutch... it's fwd, not meant for sitting doing burnouts..
anwyay, what do I know.

In all seriousness, launch control does NOT = invincible.
For the one who was asking why it seems to shift smoother when you shift "harder," it's generally been my experience that when people shift a car "harder" they don't slip the clutch as much. The clutch in the SC and TC Cobalts is easy to slip, a ton of people do it without realizing it. But when you're shifting "harder," you also tend to be quicker on/off the clutch which will make it seem to be a smoother and better shift.
