Question Crack in flex pipe

Hi, I have a crack in my pipe that connects from the header to the catalitic(spell?) converter. Some people call it the accordian piece. I first took it to a exhaust shop to see what was wrong and to have them get the car up in the air since I dont have a lift. He noticed the crack right away and told me to take my car to a chevy dealer because in order to fix the accordian, they have to order a whole new catalytic converter cause it comes as one piece. My car is a 05 ss/sc with 37,000 on the clock. He also said that the catayltic converter is covered for 8yrs 80,000 miles. Is that correct? I took my car to the dealer yesterday and he didnt get a chance to look at it yet but he said since my car is not under warranty and has no extended warrenty, i might have to pay for it all. Who's lying to me? I shouldnt have to pay to have it fixed if its covered for 8yrs 80,000miles.
