Gonna depend on your deductible....if the windshield costs less than the deductible don't tell the insurance company cause you will have to pay it anyway...

i did a little google search and found out that insurance companies have something called "comprehensive insurance" which covers things that arent driver error. i dont know if my plan has this, but online it said that many of the comprehensive deductibles are under $200......ill have to call tommorow and find out.

New cars with liens on them are required to have comprehensive insurance.

And don't count on the windshield being that cheap... Someone posted up the prices of all the windows on the Cobalts (OEM not aftermarket) and the front windshield came out to something like $1,200... The back glass was around a grand and the two quarter windows were about $400 a piece. Not sure about aftermarket glass pricing.

if you have glass coverage on your car there is no deductible for that...... it counts as a comprehensive claim but the deductible is seperate for glass coverage. I've had to do it a couple times, sign a few papers and get a new window.. and my deductible is 500. always.

well, there is no way i can afford to pay that......if it costs that much i will be forced to do it through my insurance......online it said that comprehensive claims dont raise your insurance, so hopefully thats true. my car is leased, and therefore i have full coverage and hopefully i have a really good plan regarding glass......i know that my mom's car has had chips fixed a hundred times, but i think its a lot different when it comes to total replacement.

there is an easier solution. Most insurance companies work with glass replacement companies. I had a rock hit my windshield in my equinox and I called my insurance company and they recommended this company. It cost me nothing since it was less than my deductible. They would have replaced my windshield for my deductible and thats all I'd have to pay. Call your insurance company and see. They wont raise your rates for asking. It might be less than you think.

Call your Ins. company and tell them that your windsheild was hit by a rock and now the crack is in your line of sight. Alot of the times they will work with you to get it fixed.

I used to work for safelite auto glass, and that is what the girl that handeled all the paperwork in our branch office said. Sometimes the insurance company picks up the whole tab if the damage is in your line of site, because they dont want you to get into an accident and have the crack be the cause of it.

Its worth a try.

I posted those prices up a while back. I got them from the Safelite branch where I work at in Hampton Va. I replace autoglass there full time. The prices I listed were for the OE glass.

I had this happen 2 months ago. I have a $0 comprehensive deductible, so I got a new windshield for free. I asked if my insurance would go up, but they told me it wouldn't. My insurance renews this Feb, and it is actually a few dollars less. (6 month $670 full coverage for 2 cars....USAA is the best if you can get it.)

OH, the bill for my non-OEM replacement windshield was about $300...of course I didn't pay a dime. They also replaced it at my place of work...that is really conveinent.

well, the glass replacement crew just left......and left me with a bill of $393.94. he said that since the cobalt is such a new car, there is no aftermarket glass available yet anyway, the glass looks great and i think im going to go cry now about my $400 bill.
