crank sensor

heading to work today, go out of the coffee shop parking lot and give it a bit of gas, it tried to go then fell on its face and quit. i managed to start it but was running like crap and had no power and the tach didnt work. get to work and throw the snap on scanner on to find a p0336 crank sensor A circuit open/short. at this point the tach is working again and i watched on the scanner as the rpm was at a steady 0 then just jumped right up to normal rpm. limped it to gm, they looked at it late in the day and determined the crank sensor was bad, but had to get one from edmonton, and said i might have the car back late wednesday (then were unable to give me a courtesy car).

anyone else have a crank sensor go bad??? from previous experience, they work or they dont, they arent intermitent. id think it would be more of a wiring issue.
