Cruise Control

Yeah basically my cruise control doesn't work anymore. When I push the button nothing happens but if I press it a lot it will say cruise engaged for like 1 sec then go away and cruise doesnt actually engage. Has anyone else had this problem or know what the problem could be... also could a gm dealership fix this and maybe for free?

I have a 06 ss/sc

yes unless you did something to cause the problem for example messing with the wires. but if it just went out on its own then yeah you should be fine

i had this issue like 4 times my cruise has never worked. just hope that the cruise is not engaging due to the clutch or you'll be looking at about 2k of work.

I've had the same damn problem in mine. But they told me it was the computer? My dealership here is a bunch of idiots though. Warranty covered it though.

Sounds like my problem too. It would either not engage at all when I pressed the button or engange and quickly come out of it. Dealership I think adjusted the brake pedal, and replaced 2 sensors in the steering column. Hope it doesn't break again cuz I like to use cruise on the highway.

Use your foot to try lifting UP on the brake and/or clutch pedals just before you set the cruise and see if it works

i actually just got this SAME exact problem fixed at the dealer. push the cruise, nothing happens. Romp the button like an old school nintendo controller and "cruise engaged" would flash for a split second.

turns out there's some sort of sensor module connected to the clutch that lets the cruise computer know when you disengage to shift. mine went bad somehow...car was only in the shop for one day (they also fixed some other stuff) and it works fine now. just used it on the tollway a couple days ago and it worked flawlessly.

as long as your ride is still under warranty, just bring it in and tell them the cruise won't engage. if it's the same thing that was wrong with mine, it's a quick, and free, fix.

now i have to take my car back in this week for a clogged cat (only 8600 miles!)

I had the same problems as well. Dealer said there was a code in the computer that said i always had my foot on the clutch between shifts. Like i was barely pressing down on it. He reset it and it was fine

i had it happen.
its just a DTC that sets. something to do with the clutch disengage or something, i forget exactly, but they warned me not to ride the clutch, apparently part of the description says it can be caused by riding the clutch.
if you had an interceptor or a code reader you could just clear it and it will work fine again.

disconnecting the battery for a while may work? i dunno.

yeah, i had the same problem, i had to get a new bracket for the clutch engagement sensor (cost under $1) because a piece broke off and it wasn't pushing the switch in all of the way when i let go of the clutch. I was able to fix this myself, but i had to take the whole steering column out to get the the clutch and the sensor.

I am having the same problem. My cruise control hasn't worked in months. I am going to bring it in soon for my next oil change. I have 14500 miles on my 2006. Hope it is an easy thing to fix. That is the only problem I have so far. Oh, when the sun roof opens, it kinda makes a rubbing noise.

i had the same problem w/mine. one night coming home jersey turnpike and noticed i couldn't engage it. hitting the set button a few times it would say engaged but nothing would happen. since i am already working in the car business, expecially on high end cars. i decided to take it back to the dealerrship i bought it from. i have never let anyone work on my cars. but since it was warranty i had no choice. the dealer had the car for a day. by the end of the day they called me. they tell me the code was for somone keeping there foot on the clutch when driving. WRONG. i asked him if the clutch switch needed to be adjusted. he said no. since i was holding back the argument about this, i said sure i guess i might have rested my foot on the clutch pedal. when i picked up the car i read the recept on what was done to the car. i looked all the way to the bottom and saw what the tech wrote. "adjusted clutch pedal switch, cleared codes". they make it sound like you don't know how to drive. idiots.

this has happened to me first time i took it to the dealership and they said it was a sensor and fixed it then gave me a paper saying keep your foot off the clutch (thats where the sensor is) and the second time i just pushed the clutch in again and tried to engage cruise and it did engage, although the cruise light doesn't come on but it is engaged. The dealer ship said that this has happened to alot of cobalts all of which are SS/SC's its just one of our many little bugs that give our car some character.
