custom dual exhaust 2.2

ok, so i had a custom dual exhaust done on my car (not a true dual of course, but they cut off the stock 30 lb muffler and went to work from there. i figured since i'm not going to run a supercharger or turbo on the car, only N2O in the future, the stock pipes would be just fine) by velasquez & sons. they said it would be hard to run dual on my car (at least they didn't give me the answer exhaust works did, they said it's impossible to run a custom dual on my balt!), which is an '06 2.2L cobalt ls W/O SAI, so they lifted my car and we were looking at it and i had to tell them how to run the pipes. but they way they ended up running it seems to bother me.
i drew a crappy layout of what i'm talking about.

wouldn't the way they set it up interfere with the flow of the exhaust fumes. the reason i'm asking is because on idle the exhaust makes a sort of intermittent gurgling sound. like you hear the exhaust then you don't, you hear it, then you don't and it only stops when i turn on the A/C??? WTF did they do to my exhaust? should i take it back and have them rerun the pipes the way i suggested? or would my way not work?? are there any of you 2.2 peeps out there who've had a custom dual exhaust on your cobalts? i would love some suggestions!! i mean don't get me wrong the exhaust sounds like a beast otherwise, none of that ricey stuff lol, but it's this little thing that really bugs me. thanks in advance to those who help!!

If the exhaust goes back on itself, like that I imagine the "second" exhaust is only getting mostly back pressure and might be screwing up your scavenging. I also would imagine it would make some crazy harmonics.

Your suggestion pretty much is a Y-Pipe, where it splits from single to dual.. What they did is some fucked up version of it, which I would imagine is hurting performance some how; it doesn't even look right..
