Cv axle problems
Cv axle problems
So long story short, i bought my 2006 cobalt ss in July with 140k. It’s lowered with coil overs. Drove it for 2000 miles then the passenger side cv axle broke in two. So I replaced it with one from Napa. It started to break as well. So I replaced that one with one from Oreilys and that started to do break as well. Only 5 miles were put on both. So I took it to an alignment shop and he found nothing but recommended bringing the car up to a stock height with struts.
So my questions are these. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I can’t seem to find full struts for an ss, so would one for an lt or ls work? I don’t need a racer just need a reliable daily out of it. Part numbers would be appreciated or any help in general.
thanks, Jayden

It's axel binding; guaranteed that they lowered the Cobalt without taking into account the different geometry of the transmission, the drivetrain, etc and that's adding additional pressure up front. If you're breaking the NAPA CV axles (which are the better ones), then this is it. You'll need to get a spacer on the steering rack and get a pair of front/back rotated trans mounts to help realign the front.
