CV Won't Budge From Half Shaft

Okay so I know there are other posts about this, but i've read them all and cannot make any headway. Basically my passenger side of my car woulld shake at certain torque loads so i checked the cv axle on that side and sure enough quite a bit of play. It would also clunk here and there on take off when it would actually grab.

Anyways i got my new cv axle and was in the process of replacing it but i cannot get the cv out of the carrier bearing no matter how hard i try to pry, hit with a hammer, tug, it just won't budge at all. I've used the socket extension with a hammer, wrapping a rope around the spline and jerking it with a hammer swing, and prying on it between the bolts and the spline but it hasn't moved at all. And yes i have used WD and PB Blaster as well.

Is there anything i'm missing, i need my car and this is taking way longer than i thought. And if you have no ideas can you point me to where i can buy a whole new intermediate shaft with the carrier bearing on it? I"m thinking thats what i'll end up having to do butI cannot seem to find those parts anywhere. Preferably somewhere i can get the parts quickly as its my DD and out of action.

Thanks for the help!

For some of them that are really in there, it's a mission. There's no magic trick, I tend to load them with PB blaster then hit the axle with a chisel/hammer from the middle of the car to try and separate it. Once you get it to move at all it will come out, but they are just rusted in there from age at this point.

You can also try hitting the axle itself with a hammer, sometimes the vibration can help the penetrant get in there and loosen things up. Only one time was I unable to get them apart but it was on a car I was parting out so I just tossed the whole setup. Chisel and hammer is the best bet, don't be afraid to wail on it, if you ruin the axle it doesn't matter, you're replacing it anyway. If you ruin the bearing, well it wasn't going to come apart anyway at that point.

Good luck, let us know what finally gets it.

Just seeing your second post, I find it easier to do with the carrier bolted to the engine still, although I suppose with a good vise you could approximate the same setup.

I'll try to keep hitting it on the car tomorrow, it started to get dark. I'm just surprised at how seized it is in there. I ran a spud bar through to the outside of the car and hit it with a sledge and it didn't budge at all. Hopefully i can get it out tomorrow! I need my balt back haha

amazed that it could get seized in there that bad, ive had them stuck but was always able to get them out with either a slide hammer or a sledge and something to hammer on.

Well lets just say i'm looking for a parts car around me with the whole assembly ready for a cv axle. I took it out of the car and cut the boot of the cv so it was just the end cage.. put it in a vice at a performance shop near me and they used a 20lb sledge. Didn't budge.

Guy said sometimes those split rings seat into the actually spline and dig themselves in and you could spend 3 days hitting it without getting anywhere. He said its rare but it happens.

So looks like if i can't find a parts car i'll be spending around $300 for a new one... great.

Yeah I had that situation with my own personal car, it was the only axle I couldn't get apart, rigged it up in a press and ended up damaging the bearing so I tossed the whole unit. All the other ones I've done for people I managed to get apart though, even with way more mileage than mine.

Do you have any ideas where I could get the cheapest price? Crate engine depot is 242$ plus shipping. Idk if I'll be able to find any cheaper than that

I was parting out the car so I didn't have to replace it, I don't know.
