Changing the spark plugs in a '06 HHR 2.4 thought i'd post on here as well.

What is the community knowledge of using dielectric grease when replacing the spark plugs. Yes or No?

Should it be applied to the end of the boot/coil before installing?

I've never done it in my 10 years as a mechanic and have had no problems.

On some vehicles the plug wires are held on just by the clip on the wire-end itself. So sometimes using di-electric would make the wires more prone to pop off. Not a problem in the case of any Ecotec... but I still don't use di-electric.

 

just put a lil anti sieze on the plug threads never put anything else on the spark system

 

I use dielectric grease on my plugs, just the ceramic boot and metal top (nothing below where it threads in). Never had any problems.

 

I've never heard of using that on spark plugs but I've used it for o rings. Not all the time though most of the time I just use some spit. Anti seize is all you need on the plugs.

 

If you were going to cross creeks in an off road vehicle, you may use dielectric grease on all of the electrical connections to prevent water shorting, but not in these cars...IMHO

 

Looks like the general consensus is to just put some antiseize on the threads of the spark plug and just pop on the boot/coil with no grease.
