Dipstick Popping Out

As the title says...

Compression test "pass"
Intake manifold gasket "fine"

Any ideas? Went to go tune the car tonight, and instead of a nice 3RD GEAR PULL, I got a nice windshield of oil.

Check your oil level. Mine did the same exact thing and it turns out the tech that did my oil change over filled my oil. Drained some out and it was fine.

you only need 6.5 quarts steve. that might be a problem. apparently there's a reason for the dipstick popping out, i've read it on here before, but i forget where.

read your owners manual, haha, it takes 6.5. i'm trying to find you an answer right now.

his gasket is fine, as well as his compression. did anyone even read the first post?

steve, maybe it got seated funny when you re-installed your blower. you had it off recently right?

Had it off twice yesterday, first time was to install a new I.C. pump, second time was to double check it. The OEM intake manifold gasket w/ the newer style rubber sealing in the middle of it is in fact fine, and reusable in my situation. The supercharger sits fine and flush.

Thank you ls1fbody for repeating the O.P. compression and gasket are "passing"

I'll have to stop by walmart and pick up some oil. sucks since I just changed it 1000 miles ago...
Funny, I was able to make the dipstick pop out at 10 psi in neutral in a controlled test in the drive way... lol good thing i wasnt on the freeway again... hope I didnt make to much of a mess...eh...

im pretty sure (almost positive) GM has a service bulletin thing (w/e they're called) out about this issue. If you can't ind it on here, the dealer should take care of it under warranty since its a known common problem. Regardless, im pretty sure it was a simple fix, and it is definitely posted somewhere on these forums

oh and LS1, if u mean a head gasket...i dont think steves ever taken the motor apart...idk if he wants to unless he knows he has to.

yes, there is a TSB, and its about the supercharger/IM gasket, which is what i'm referring to.

not talking about the head gasket.

i've always wanted to know how you do a leakdown test. my ignorance in some areas is immense

you should be able to feel air escaping the dip-stick tube as well.

Yeah motor isn't coming apart anytime soon. My motor's pistons are still alive some how lol.

They swapped the older intake manifold gaskets that didnt have the rubber oriface around the center opening. I have an 07 cobalt, and my gasket has it.

So I dunno... ever since I installed my new water pump yesterday, its like my car is making full power again lol... It was so slow though... top end only has like 9* of timing...

Ya I'll go drain a lil in about 10-20 minutes, let it warm up and check the dipstick. Then do a quick 10 psi rev in neutral to see if it pops again.

Where would you purchase the breather filter from?

you don't need a breather, if you notice, it didn't fix the problem and his motor popped. in any case, you can get them from auto-zone or pep boys, and drill a hole in the oil cap and mount it there.

here is what i recommend:

correct the oil level
NEW gasket, to be on the safe side.

hmm... i used to have the .pdf owners manual, and i could have sworn it says 6.5. mind you i'm 7000 miles away from my car.

leakdown test:

just dumped out roughly 1 quart of oil... gonna go turn it on, let it get to temps, turn it off and check the levels.

From what I'm told it's good to have the oil inbetween the min and MAX for a happy median.

you do not put the breather filter on the oil cap!!!! Go buy one they are like 6 dollars. You undo the stock hose on the back of the valve cover and it goes to your intake take the hose off cut it and plug one end and put the other end back on your intake then put your breather filter on your valve cover.

One of my friends works at a chev dealer and told me a few z06s came in there with the same problem and he said they run them a quart low and it fixed the issue

I could go take one that is how i have it on my redline.
