Door Lock Question
Door Lock Question
Hello,
Someone recently tried breaking into my car and in the process of doing so damaged the door handle lock, and the handle (I think... the handle itself is slightly pried off the door). The key won't open the driver side or turn the lock at all, so I have to go through the passenger side to unlock the driver side. I went to the dealership and they gave me an estimate of $400 to fix it. They said about $230 for parts, $120 for labor, and $50 to paint the handle.
Seems like an amateur tried breaking into my car, I mean who tries to break into a car through a door handle lock?
What really annoys me is that a week before this incident happened I had just finished sealing the water deflector (the plastic sheet between the door and the door panel) with silicone. So now I need to cut it out just to access the door handle and reseal it once I fix this problem... fml -_-
I found the part from a gm oem site
Lock cylinder Left - Coupe - Coupe 05-08 for $87.43
If I were to do it myself I would save over $300
I think I can just reuse the handle and just buy the lock cylinder itself correct?
If I were to buy a lock cylinder how would I go about matching it to my key? Does the company I buy it from do it for me if I give them a VIN#? I will ask the company in the near future but I just wanted to get some input from you guys.
Specs of the car
2006 Chevy Cobalt LS coupe, manual locks, I do not have keyless entry

Yeah I'd love to see some pics of the whole car. All I have done so far is Ksport springs and HID headlights. I love the color too, I'm actually about to have to repaint the entire car due to some really bad clear coat issues though, but I'm going back the same color. Just gotta find an SS front bumper first, lol
