Engine is hard to crank over

Hey everybody, so I recently changed my timing chain tensioner (albeit being very difficult) and I think it was successful. It's been about a week now and the engine hasn't blown up so I think I'm in the clear haha. But I've noticed that the engine is not as easy to crank over now, but it seems more like a weak spark, or so I hope. When I changed the tensioner, I disconnected the negative battery cable and it stayed disconnected for about 7 hours or so. Once we got it back on, the battery no longer had the power to crank the engine over, and after a minute or so, the electronics in the car all became dim. Keep in mind that the battery is only about a month old, AAA gave us a replacement when the old one quit working in the middle of the road. So what do you guys think; is the battery just bad or did my friend and I mess something up? The engine runs fine by the way, that's why I'm leaning more towards the defective battery thing.
