You dont need a torque wrench to do an oil change, everything should be snug tight. This cap is what everyone is talking about, every new oil filter will come with a new o-ring, I recommend replacing it every time, all you have to do is make sure this cap is snug tight, you dont have to use a torque wrench on it. It is a 32mm socket, they sell a special "ecotec oil filter cap" socket at your local parts store for this.

Yeah get that adapter socket thing. I got a regular, nearly-useless 32mm socket and it barely fits.

Thanks for the info. You've given me peace of mind. I honestly thought I shattered something unintentionally.

Thank you. I feel a bit better.
u don't need a torque wrench, just tighten it nice and snug. don't reef on it, just go till it wont turn anymore easily, then give it a little more and ur good. make sure the oring is on the cap in the right grove, and oil the oring so it seals good. just dip finger in oil and rub it on oring.

I've always tightened filters down "hand tight" plus a 1/4 turn. I've always found that to be nice and snug. Pretty much what everyone else has said. Get it on there good enough and you'll be fine.

LSJ takes 6 quarts. 6.5 is too much and 7 will froth the oil in the pan.

no joke...my brother's girlfriend's brother did this. My brother checked his oil and told him he needed to put a quart in. The kid came home with a gallon and put it in. My brother needed a second oil drain pan when he changed the oil. The kid denies he did it

This. Its a plastic cap going into a metal block. You don't have to torque it...

On the saturn forum I used to be on some one convinced some one else they had to fill the oil until they could see it in the fill hole.
Fun fact; it takes about 6 gallons to completely fill a 2.2 ecotec to the point that you can see it.
haha.

When I first bought my Mitsubishi galant. I had no idea how to change my oil. I asked my FIL to help me and he showed me how to do an oil change.

Well we accidentally drained the transmission fluid, and then poured 5L of oil in. so the car had double the oil and no transmission fluid. We started it up and I was like "my transmission wont shift" and then we realized our fail lol.

It worked fine after we drained 10L of oil out.

That is by far the best thing I've heard all day
