engine rattle
engine rattle
Hey guys this has just started happening, I have a weird rattle from the engine bay but only sometimes. I think it is coming from the passenger side of the engine but cannot tell as it doenst always happen and after about 3-5 mins if it was happening it stops. It sounds like the heater sheild on the exhaust manifold is rattling but I checked and it was tight. No loss in power no cels no nothing just a loud sound only sometimes. Any clue I know this is kindof vague and im sorry this is just all the information I have.

could be heatshield if its like whenever or at idle...
could be just the drivetrain making noise if its while in gear but not on the gas (which is fine)

it doesnt matter I usually hear it while driving but it has happened while sitting the last few days as well. but like it said it goes away after 3-4 minutes. If it happens while driving it isnt constant but the times it has happened while at a red light it has been a constant sound. Also, if i give it a little gas while sitting still the sound will stop until the RPMs come back to idle.
Should be able to see it looking down the back side of your motor from in the engine bay. I believe it's before your catalytic converter. Google image search "cobalt ss sc flex pipe" for what it looks like
Mines doing the same thing had to take a stethoscope to it. Come to find out its time for a blower rebuild. It may be the supercharger coupling. Does it sound like someone shaking a can of marbles?
You are right, it most likely is coming from the passenger side. Which is the side the timing chain is on. It probably needs a tensioner or chain guide. The guides are plastic and wear out fast. I believe there is a thread on this in the 2.0 perf tech section.
I'd bet the flex pipe. Like sheep said its right back from the manifold before the cat. If your car has less than 80k miles and this is the issue take it to your local chevy dealer and it will fall under emissions warranty because the cat dp and flex pipe are "one piece" from oem. Good luck.
