Engine Thrash?

Ok, I've been reading reviews and test and what not on the Cobalt in Motortrend, Car and Driver and, Road & Track. All of which say the 2.0 supercharged engine expreciences "engine thrash". Well... WHAT THE HELL IS ENGINE THRASH!?!?!

The rags you mentioned don't like a motor that sounds any different than a Honda at higher rpm. The noise they hear is what they call thrash.

"There was still too much engine thrash above 4000 rpm."

Hey, all you can say is that one man's music is another man's 2-year-old banging on the trash can lid with a stick. I think it sounds great.

It's true, look at any article in Motor Trend comparing a Acura/Honda vs. anything, and the Acura/Honda will win. Look at there website and every advertisement that comes up is Honda. Coincidence, I think not.

I'm not sure what thrash is, perhaps someone should email them and find out.

I'd like to see you tell that to Buzz Aldrin ----> http://www.thatvideosite.com/view/2311.html

I think what they mean by engine thrash is just the sound the engine makes when you let off the throttle at the higher rpm's, maybe the popping and gurgling (my SS/SC used to do it the first 500 miles or so, but I haven't noticed it since). Just my guess anyways...

What's the matter? The honest guy can't accept the truth?

Honda has owned the high revving 4 banger territory over the last ten years. A Honda I4 at high rpm sounds different than anything anyone else makes including Toyota or Nissan. I can remember them using "thrash" when driving the Celica GT-S VVT.

It isn't truth... it is just recirculated and regurgitated BS, that owners of some piece of crap domestic car made up because they didn't like the truth. true story

Maybe they are talking about jerk from the change from boost to vacuum when you let off the gas in high boost. It's normal for a SC 4 cylinder car though.

And we're supposed to believe a fanboy like you when there isn't an ounce of logic in any of your blatently biased "explanations?"

Nobody has made a high rev 4 banger as smooth as Honda. Not Toyota, not Nissan and not GM. All the others get somewhat noisy at 4k and up. This is what they are referring to as thrash.

The engines in the 2.0 and the 2.4 are a bit loud at low rpm's with light throttle in my opinion. As for the majority of car mag's being biased towards Honda, I would have to agree.

I agree that it is a bit noisey. No big deal. The chain drive timing system might be part of it.
