Engine Thrash?
Engine Thrash?
Ok, I've been reading reviews and test and what not on the Cobalt in Motortrend, Car and Driver and, Road & Track. All of which say the 2.0 supercharged engine expreciences "engine thrash". Well...
WHAT THE HELL IS ENGINE THRASH!?!?!

I'm not sure what thrash is, perhaps someone should email them and find out.

I think what they mean by engine thrash is just the sound the engine makes when you let off the throttle at the higher rpm's, maybe the popping and gurgling (my SS/SC used to do it the first 500 miles or so, but I haven't noticed it since). Just my guess anyways...

Honda has owned the high revving 4 banger territory over the last ten years. A Honda I4 at high rpm sounds different than anything anyone else makes including Toyota or Nissan. I can remember them using "thrash" when driving the Celica GT-S VVT.

Nobody has made a high rev 4 banger as smooth as Honda. Not Toyota, not Nissan and not GM. All the others get somewhat noisy at 4k and up. This is what they are referring to as thrash.
