Eratic Shifting

Hi. I've got a 2006 SS 2.4 auto. Never had a problem until this morning. Some guy cut me off on the highway while I was going about 60. When I went to hit the brakes my knee hit the ignition and turned the car off. I cruised to a stop at the shoulder. Started it and merged into traffic. Now it's shifting very eratic and wants to stall when I stop. Could I have damaged the torque converter? Computer messed up now and has to re-boot? Thanks. Tom.

I would try removing the negative terminal on the battery for 15 minutes, let the computer reset, put the terminal back on and see what happens. If it is still doing that, take it to the dealer and get it looked at.

I do not think your converter is damaged. Its not like it was taken out of gear or forced into another gear. From what I understand you just turned the ignition off. Did you just drift off to the side, put it back in park and re-started it?

Yes, just drifted to the side, stopped. Turned it on and drove. I just disconnected the negative wire from terminal (after I found the battery!) and am letting it rest and maybe reset. I have old cars from 1970-1976 that I restore/collect so this new to me. Thanks for the quick relpies. Tom

Thank you gentelmen, That did the trick. I'm Old School so I tend to think mechanical instead of computers, sensors etc.
Tom.
