EVAP Problems (Formly Exhaust Problems)
Ok, my 05 SC/SS threw a code on me Thurday, went to get it checked out, said it was a Evaporative Emission something or other. They cleared it, drove it around and it didnt come back on. Well that f'n code came back this morning. Its gonna go in Wednesday morning to have them take a better look, and I was wondering if anybody else had experienced this code also? Nothing is done to the car its bone stock.

I haven't seen anything like this on the boards yet, so I dunno. Sounds like they need to smoke test it and see where it's leakin at. I don't see how an evap leak could be exhaust related though...

I ask the service guy what it was and he it was the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent something. He played around with the tech-2 and I heard him open and close the vent. I just hope it wasn't something stupid I did with it one night, thats gonna cost me out the ass.

If its a code for the evap emissions then it is regarding the fuel tank/charcoal canister ... nothing to do with the exhaust in any way.
If he was opening and closing a valve it was either the purge valve (valve that allows engine to pull fuel tank into a vacuum for test purposes) or the shutoff valve (valve that seals off the tank from the atmosphere... )

I didnt read the entire document but the first diagram seems to be a pretty decent generic depiction of how an evap emissions system is setup. At benz when we test an evap emissions leak (what typically sets a fault code)... we close the shutoff valve ( to close off the system from the atmosphere) and fill the system with a smoke machine. Locate where the smoke is leaking at and repair. Although all setups are not exactly the same. Im not sure how a chevy or gm product is setup... but I would imagine it is similar

I'll find out the deal is with it is on Wednesday. I just hope its a problem that falls under the warranty, and not out of my pocket, cause thats all I need is another bill to pay.

well after I thought that my dealer fixed my problem guess what...thats right my friend the check engine light came on. Now they are gonna order me a new gas cap to fix the problem. If this doesnt fix it, I'm taking a week off, driving to lordstown and going to have them fix my crap.

Philco 3, I feel your pain, but try to be pateint. I know EVAP problems, especially small leaks, can be tough to find. It is also a possibility the tech working on it hasn't got a clue. You do have an option to take it to another Dealer or even request to the Service Manager to have a different Tech look at it. I hope it works out for you, and yes EVAP problems are covered, they're emissions related.

yah thats what I'm going to do here in a hour or two. They installed my new gas cap, and the light is still on. But I did notice when I filled up just after some shopping that while I was at the pump it would click off like it was full, which it wasnt. Patience is wearing out, I'm trading her in for a Vette

EDIT; Just checked bulletins; Document ID # 1727673, DTC p0446 (EVAP code), tank hard to refuel. Cause is possible restriction in Vent Tube,(thats what the Vent Soleniod opens to) Show this to the Service Advisor, it should help.
