After getting the freeway and driving on the freeway for about 10 mins, I pull off with a couple of my buddies who are in different cars, and I had to pull over because I heard a puttering come from my car. (2006 2.4 SS Auto) I couldn't figure it out. So about a week later (today) I took it to an exhaust shop and when the guy put it up on the lift, at idle, the exhaust shakes so much, but when he had me rev it, everything tightened up and stopped shaking, then when it got back to idle, shaking again. I can feel the exhaust shaking when I am stopped at a light, and its aggravating. Its using the original hangers etc. He said to check my engine mounts too make sure they aren't messed up, but I really don't think they are toast. Anyone help?

 

If the exhaust is shaking at idle then the engine is obviously shaking.
Check your vacuum hoses for trouble areas (leaks) which might be causing the rough idle.

Didnt the 06 2.4s have a recall on leaking injectors.
