Extremely weird clutch pedal feel!!!!!
I have a 07' Cobalt SS/SC, this started happening about a week and a half ago, but I noticed that when I drive the car and it revs over 5k RPM the clutch pedal will have almost no resistance when I press it, then it will start to engage just about an 2 inches off the floor and have a lot of free play up top, then when i slow down to a stop and put it in first, the clutch pedal will only engage when its down on the floor then start biting just 2 inches off the ground again. Now, when I drive the car normally, like just shifting at 3k the clutch will engage fine. I took it to the dealer and they said it could be the clutch disc itself... I don't think so. It's hard to explain over text but in summary... If I drive the car and take the RPMs over 5K, the clutch pedal will engage and bite just 2 inches off the ground and have free play when released, also, this happen when driving very slow, like starting from a dead stop then start rolling and take the RPMs to 5k. Please help, the a-holes at the dealer don't seem to realize the problem...

that happens to me in my 1st gear. If i string out the entire gear then the clutch will shorten up for the next few accelerations. its done that since ive had the car which has been about a year and nothing serious has happened yet lol i almost enjoy it due to a shorter shifting time

Well, partially dealer ship is right, something down there ain't right. Try this trick just for giggles, sometimes hydrolic clutches and their "auto adjusting" gets stuck (learned this from my '85 gt stang, but same premise applies). Car not running, hold pedal to the floor. Simply slide your foot off the pedal and let clutch just pop. If no fix, probably has to do with the pressure plate fingers, pedal/slave cylinder, the clutch plate itself, or you have burned up the flywheel.

Thanks I'll try that. The reason I say they're a-holes is because I got the feeling their "Transmission Expert" didn't want to fix whatever was wrong under warranty conditions, which pays a certain amount of hours and nothing more, he said I'd have to cough up $700 just for the guy to drop the tranny and check the clutch disc, if it was clutch disc problem I'll pay the $700 PLUS whatever it takes to fix the problem... OR I take a gamble and if it's something else other than a clutch disc problem, warranty will cover it with a $100 deductible... I just don't have $700+ to bet on 50-50 chances right now... All in all, I think their tranny guy just doesn't want to fix it with warranty paying for it. I'll just have to take it to another local chevy dealer and pay another $100 "Diagnostic Fee" which I paid the original dealer who in general didn't diagnose anything because they couldn't figure out the problem...

Happens to my car all the time when i drive it hard and drop the clutch from red lights, Ive heard its normal, When the clutches heat up in our cars they dont grab as much. Thats why it feels fine when you drive the car normally (shift at 2.5 or 3k and dont drop the clutch) And yes it does feel weird, almost like its almost shot, but its always fine after it cools down lol

I have had this problem for almost a year now. When I take 1st to higher RPM's and shift to 2nd, the clutch will just spin. The RPM's will jump to red-line and I won't be going anywhere. After I left off the gas, the clutch will engage like you said, very close to the ground for a few minutes.
I was also told normal for my mods and being stock clutch with my miles. It's just getting weak under tons of load, but normal driving I have zero issue, no slip, etc.
Makes sense to me.
