First ever fuel leak 14 years running OEM lines

Well boys as you can see from the pics below I just sprung my first ever fuel leak after 14 years and over 200k running my same OEM lines without ever touching them.

It's a slow leak right back behind the driver seat ins the heat shield right in front of the rear driver side tire. I can tell that it's coming from one spot in the line where it clamps.

What would you guys recommend running all new OEM lines or just splicing into the bad part and replacing it with silicone lines?

Up to you but if the rest is good you can just splice it. Powell makes a little kit for doing it if you want to wait a few days.

I used Powell's kit when mine started leaking, works great .All you need is a small tubing cutter, something to cut the rubber line with, Teflon tape and a couple of wrenches.

..

Id do the kit if the line seems ok elsewhere. I got the entire line ( front to back ) from GM, and even cutting it in half ( patched in a flex fuel sensor for an E85 content gauge ), and on a lift it was a bitch getting it maneuvered into place.

Is it just vibration or corrosion?

Corrosion. I redid mine with nylon lines when it happened to me. So far so good.

Mine corroded above the gas tank so it leaked everywhere. Had to replace the whole assembly.

The two common areas they'll leak is on top of the tank and in front of the left rear tire. The one in front of the tire is because the heat shielding GM put there holds water, dirt, saly etc.and rots the line away. Don't know the reason for the one on the tank but if I'm remembering correctly, some Cobalts were recalled for that leak.

They were, mine was. IIRC, the pump assembly had a defect in some of the plastic molding.

Thanks so much guys all super good info! And that makes sense about them leaking in the same spot. I keep my clean and garaged but like you said of salt is trapped under that heat shield
