Piston ring? No way that stuff could go from inside the engine, past the intake valves, and rattle around the intake manifold. it the ring broke into pieces your piston and head would be fucked right now

I'm guessing parts of your intercooler. Although it could be rings if one locked your intake valve open then potentially it could eject the ring material into the IM. Grab a borescope and pull the plug on #2
Also the low compression on #2 could be due to a bent rod

Im thinking now that it running rough couldve been everytime it sucked a piece of metal back into the cylinder and keeping a valve stuck open. The car literally drives fine except for a slight hesitation when you take off but while cruising every ten minutes itll start missing like crazy again but if you give it like 30 seconds all the power comes back and i can keep driving

Ah, I thought you were 05-06. this is what I have:
SCE Pro Copper Exhaust Manifold Gasket
Thing seals up like crazy. I've reused it many times now and haven't had a problem yet

I think you can use a stock LSJ gasket on your head, the ports look similar. I know the LNF one doesn't seal on an LSJ head either.
That sucks about the ring, that's the first time I've seen that happen on a cobalt. VVT engine? Sometimes the internal EGR function of the cam timing causes enough vacuum to pull pieces of stuff out of the intake, seen it happen on other cars but not an ecotec yet.
