Frozen Door Hinge?
Frozen Door Hinge?
Now that the temps here in WYO have been sub zero for several days, my driver side door is making a horrible noise when opened and closed. Any thoughts? Since reading the thread, I've noticed that the paint is rubbing off at the bottom of the door but I don't think it's connected. This sound is terrible!
The paint rubbing off sucks. It sucks because I can't think of a way that the dealer could actually resolve the problem, but the noise I'm hearing is definately coming from inside the fender where the connecting rod (half way between the henges) goes into the fender. My guess/hope is that a little moisture got into the fender somehow and is now frozen and restricting movement but it sure sounds like metal-on-metal. Just wondering if anyone else had encountered this? Hoping this will go away and stay gone when things thaw.
It could be the check strap. As for the correct way to fix the paint is. this is what i did. Repaint the door jamb and i put some 3m chip guard clear tape on the bottom where the seal meets. It's been 2 years and it's still perfect.
Check strap?
As for the paint (probably a remark for the sticky thread) I guess the dealer could re-hang and adjust the door; but I'm thinking that weight is causing the problem so your solution is a good one- thanks! I had similar issues with a sagging door on my first car, an '84 Monte Carlo SS.
