Fuel leak. Need guidance
Fuel leak. Need guidance
I noticed some effects of this problem about a month ago. I would start the car after letting it sit for a few hours, and it would beg for fuel. Many cranks were needed to fire the engine.
Now, I smell gasoline fairly strong while driving, or just the car sitting there off.
It drives normally. Runs fine.
I'd like to hear from anybody with some insight on where to begin looking for this leak. I imagine the leak is not substantial enough to cause drops of gas, for I can't find any. I think it's just evaporating out.
I just don't know where to start.

Is the smell stronger from the back of the car or the front? have you noticed it dripping from anywhere?
I have a reoccurring problem for the past few years of the in-tank fuel pump house cracking and needing replaced. It's covered under permanent recall (at least here in Ohio). And is more than likely the answer if the smell is stronger or dripping has been noticed in the back.

The leak is on top of the tank so unless it's very bad you won't see it dripping down the tank, it tends to puddle up and evaporate from there.
Plan on replacing the fuel pump assembly.
