Gas Gauge Problems

Ok having some gas gauge issues. I have had this car for 3 months now and put 400 miles on it. Found out it had a blown head gasket 3 days after I bought it. Well finally got around to get it fixed. YIPPY! So I fill up weds night and the gas gauge stopped about 1/8th away from full. Went on about my business. Next day I drove 23 miles and the gauge went down 1/4th. Went and filled up after work still 1/8th from full. Next day on the way to work reads full tank but today Im in and out of my car a good bit and the gauge seems to move up and down a little. So my thing is do I have a defective gas gauge and is there something I can do. thanks for any help

Merry Christmas!

Shoot, I had a problem similar to this when i bought my car like over a year ago, so i can't remember exactly but i think the dealership replaced my fuel pump? And then it was all good.

EDIT: Just found the paper... they replaced fuel sensor.

i never trusted the gas gauge on my car it moves so much as long as i get near 300 per fill up everything is fine
i have no problems with fill up but sometimes when i first start up after driving it will be at one level but then it will fall down idk i chalked it up as a quirk with the car since i saw on here other ppl have the same issue

Mine does this, too, sorta. Say I just filled up - When I turn on my car, the gauge seems to report 1/8th short of full (less if it's cold, it seems.) Within 5-10 minutes, however, it has worked it's way all the way to F.

This is also reflected in it's calculation of mileage to empty, i.e. it will show 290ish miles to empty at first, then after a bit show the normal 330ish for a full tank... It's pretty consistent for me, though, so I've never seen it as too much of an issue once I learned it's pattern.

I wonder if it does that due to thermal expansion of the fuel?
