GM's fix for the Trim Cup (Recall on it)

**Figure this would be a good place to put it since it's Cobalt Related and it's a Problem. Mod's please feel free to move if this isn't the place.**

So my leather was splitting from the trim cup that goes around my buttons like door locks and power windows, the paint was also chipping really bad. They told me to wait a month and they would have a fix thru GM. Well they called me the other day to come in and get this replaced. This is there fix FYI. They mold a ring around the trim cup to prevent the trim cup and leather from ever seperating again. sorry the pictures aren't that great (taken in the dark with phone camera) but this gives you an idea. The trim cup also is coated with a foreign substance I am not fimilar with that ensures the paint doesn't chip. Feels funny..

FYI also, there is a bulletin on this and it's a nation wide recall for ALL Cobalt SS/SC's and Leather trimmed Sedan's. I know many people were complaining about this being an issue. I seem to be the beta tester at my dealership (so they say ). I've had almost every interior trim piece replaced (They are losing paint at a rapid pace for only being one year) with something totally off the wall different everytime. This was a fine example.

They replace both the driver side and passenger side door trim cup.

-Mike

My trim cups are chipped horribly, is there a link to find that recall? I know my dealership will moan and groan about it being my fault.

Sorry gentleman no link but I can at least do the favor of obtaining the TSB # for this fix My dealership seen this as a fault the minute I complained about it. It was on my weekly TSB print out I get from them.

So far about 90% of my interior trim pieces have been replaced. it's only been a year.

My dealer is supposed to call me when they get the fix. Did your door lock buttons also chip. Mine is that is why I'm asking.

For good measures I have for the time being the part #'s you will need

15890405 Driver Side Trim Ring
15876635 Passenger Side Trim Ring
22733545 Drivers Side Plate (Passengers Side has a 6 at the end).

I threw away my TSB sheet at McDonalds. Will get you the TSB # tomorrow for you

Happy fixing!

my buttons didn't chip. Not sure how yours did? I'm sure it's only a matter of time till something happens

According to my service write up the cups are painted and laminated.

Mine tried to blame it on my watch I wear (Funny... I don't wear one?) Oh well. If they are smart and resourceful enough they will look it up for you but if you can wait till tomorrow I will be more then happy to get you the TSB # for it.

No problem man

Another issue which I am going to bring up is this is the 3rd time/Request I have had to put in for sticking exterior door handles. They lube them and then they stick again... My most recent issue was the handle won't go back in the slot from which I pulled it out of and kept the door ajared.. drove to the dealership holding my door closed and driving a stick at the same time doing 50mph... it's getting rediclious.. I couldn't get it to go back in for the life of me.. played with it for well over an hour.

Technical Service Bulletin = TSB

There is also a recall for those who have the cloth interior and wearing trim cups. That's a seperate fix on a seperate TSB. Sorry I don't have that right off hand. This is so new...

That's asking too much. I just have my dealership give me a weekly TSB print out that lets me know anything on the Cobalt that has a recall or a fix to an issue. They can't deny you a sheet of paper for there mess ups..

GM wouldn't send out a recall to ppls houses unless it was a safety issue.

My dealership says these parts don't exist. If you enter the part numbers above at GMdirect.com they don't show up. How can I get the cups fixed? Thanks.
