Good 12V source

I am installing Emergency LED lights in my car and I have run into a problem. I have my lights relayed to a switch, I just decided to use the 12v source from the cigarette lighter. I spliced everything up, plugged the battery bag in. And the lights work great! I get in the car, hit the switch to off...and try to turn it on again....nothing. Turns out I blew a fuse. Do i need to find a better 12v source or should I throw resisters on before the switch? If you have any other 12v sources that are better let me know.

lemme find the thread that talks specifically about a 12v source....we frequently use the sunroof slot (in the fuse panel on the passenger floor board kick panel)

Tell me exactly how you have the relays wired up to the switch and to the lights........then i will tell you why you are blowing fuses.......also if you know the wattage of the lights and the amperage of the relay and the size of fuses that you keep blowing, that is also info that a person would need to help you.........Later

i figured it out when my ******* wires melted. Im running pice of **** AC swtiches from radio shack, and solid gauged wire. I must of fried the **** out of my switch and that cause the meltdown. I'm going out tomorrow to re-do the entire project.

haha it depends on the state you live in. I live in NY, where we are only allowed to use Blue Lights for emergency response. some states alow blue and red, red and white, white and blue...green, majenta i dont know. NY is strictly blue blue. I found that vid on youtube because thats ****** sweet.

and yes, showing up to a party with your lights blazin is amusing as ****.

Just be careful, all volunteer firefighters have a special permit that allows us to use the lights. Just tell the cop you were testing your new "off road, spectacular show car lights."

This is what my light bar looks like

blue blue, 26 different patterns, attaches to rearview mirror, add that with the two blue led strobes in the corner of the windshield and I should do a decent job of moving traffic
