Is this happening to anyone else's passenger (or driver) door? I just noticed it a few days ago and I don't know what could have even caused it.

Dosen't look to serious, looks like the seal is just ripping off, a quick warrentry replace....Have you let you door swing wide open too often?

I never let my door swing open. I usually try to open it to that position with assistance when I open it all the way.

You have to remember you're driving a chevy, and we all know how good the build quality is..
. Just looks like a ripped seal...I'd rather have that then an engine leak, so count yourself lucky!

The strip on my door right under the window is actually starting to dis-color...

Trust me, I know this since I do the labor time studies for GM. I just thought that they would have improved more than this over the Cavalier. It usually takes GM a while to catch up to the rest of the manufacturers, it seems.

If I give you a puzzle and you put it together wrong, is it the puzzle's fault or your fault?

The Cobalt is 10x the car the Cavy was. But if you don't put it together right, things will go wrong.

In this case, it is the puzzle. One example is on the new GMT 900 trucks: the interior trim plastic is too soft for the metal retainers they attatch to them so when you pull offf the trim, it is more than likely going to break apart the plastic while the retainer stays in the body of the vehicle. It is not really GM's fault though, it is many of the not so intelligent engineers they hire and even some of the engineers at the companies that manufacture the parts for them.

my 05 Cobalt coupe is doing that... both sides.
the doorhandles are sticking or hard to pull... they just keep oiling the latches instead of fixing the problem.

I bought a used '05 sedan about a month ago. After this post I noticed I don't even have those gaskets/boots on my front doors. I think it's gonna have to go in for a transmission TSB so maybe they can put they boots on then. The car only had 7K on it when I bought it. Somebody probably had a lot of trouble with this car to trade it with such low milage.

Since water can run down there and in thru the hole it's probably a good idea to do a do it yourself fix. I'm trying to think of something that makes sense unlike the original POS.

Water shouldn't be getting in since that piece is sandwiched between the door and the slider assembly. Once it tears there is still foam there just not rubbbing the slider.

That slider is what keeps the door from opening past 90 degrees and hitting the fender.
