Has anyone had this happen?
Has anyone had this happen?
I have a 2005 ss/sc. At a stop light on my way home from work today my car did something odd. I began accelerating & at about 5000 rpm my engine kicked down as if it had hit the limiter. When I gave it gas it began chugging as if it was going to stall. When this happened, a message saying engine power reduced came on my information display. The engine then stalled while I was trying to accelerate. I was able to restart the engine while I was coasting, but it again was barely running & was shaking & chugging as if it was going to stall. I pulled over & idled for a few seconds then tried to take off again, it was still not right. I finally shut it off & looked under the hood & didn't see or smell anything out of the ordinary. After a couple minutes I started it back up & it ran fine except my engine light is on. I had to drive it home & will have to drive it to the dealer tomorrow. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
i had something sort of similar happen with the car dying, restarting and chugging, dying again, then running fine with CEL, but i never got the reduced engine power. i did get the fun of my tach not working, though. based on the parts that are the same, it could be an issue with the crank position sensor, but given that you didn't lose the tach and got the reduced power message, can't say for sure.

my 05 did that one time, at about 5000 mile mark. i had to shut off the car and wait for it to start back up cause it didnt want to restart. the dealer said it might have had a glich with the onstar system and the onboard computer system???? i said OK, WTF.. but they reset my onstar and i have never had the problem again. could be all bs from the dealer for all i know, but like i said, 27k miles later, never had it happen again!
this has happened to me under hard acceleration. the same exact thing and the dealer ship wouldnt fix my car because because they blamed it on the intake. if you find what the problem is, let me know so i can tell my dealership.

that happend to my parents cobalt, in the middle of BFE Wyoming and it didnt clear itself out, lucky the next town only 5 miles away had a chevy dealer so they went in and chevy reset the comp and the car was fine but they drove home anyways and swaped it out for our ford escape just in case.
