Question Has anyone popped a stage2 motor

With the stock stg2 pulley and tune? Not that i'm having any issue's , just curious . Seems every engine that ive seen let go has a smaller pulley, and or a custom tune . While im at it , has anyone had an engine failure with a 2.9 or larger pulley on a stage tune? Thanks .

none that ive heard of.
other than 1 guy who accidentally downshifted to second and revved to 8200 and blew some ****.

but nothing has popped on gmstage2 that i know of with a 2.9 or higher.
or 2.8 for that matter either.

Ive only seen 1 2.8 car pop and that was with 60lbers and custom tune.

So why does everyone say that my car is going to blow up on a 2.8 and stage 2?

because it pushes the limits of the injectors past the "safe" range.

its risky...but thus far the truth is this.

motors that have popped so far have all had 3 things in common.

Pully 2.7 or lower..
60lb injectors
custom tuning.

Exactly why I have my car setup the way I do. Cheap, easy, reliable HP. I've run my exact setup for over a year, with no problems. Cheaper than custom tuning and less dangerous, less heat and stress on the blower, and nice drivability with the Stage tune.

Thx for the reply's , im just curious as to what route to take . I'll prolly just leave it stock stage 2 till warranty is over. I've been wanting to have the stage tune cleaned up alittle and try to tweak torque management or get rid of it all together . Any safe suggestions? thx

You can remove torque management, I didn't feel a difference either way though. Add a 2.8 or 2.9 pulley, its a nice boost, and bump the rev limit to 7200, so you can pull all the way past 7000 smoothly. I did this while getting the CEL from the cat delete turned off, it just adds a nice little touch. Nothing drastic, and virtually undetectable by anyone. Cobalt Addiction even sells thier smaller pulley that looks just like the GM one, so if you did take it in for warranty no-one would really know.

Yes, we had a motor pop within 5 minutes of the Stage 2. And it was not warrantied either because the motor ran fine under normal config but under stage 2 could not handle the additional boost.

They do not have to warranty the fact that an engine CAN be modified, all they have to warranty is that the car runs fine stock. Basically that customer got screwed and had to live without stage 2 :-( Not my doing.

No doubt. The kid must have blown the piston rings. Hence no warranty. They never had to guarantee that the car could handle the stage 2. They could handle stock boost at the time, but were obviously worn out.

Kid was mad, and ended up trading the car in, but he raced the crap out of the motor (heard it from his uncle)
