Having A Sense Of Humor

Hello all... had the base radio replaced in my 05 Cobalt base coupe maybe a month or so ago. I was assured that this new radio would cure all my LOCKED woes. All has been sweetness and light until today. Three times, the radio locked on me.

I have a sense of humor about it... the dealership did not.
They have no idea what they want to do next.

Probley a power issue. If the radio loses power it will lock cause it thinks its being stolen.

Does the radio they replaced it with look exactly like the old one?

When we had this problem with the 05 base, the radio they replaced it with was an uplevel model with chrome trimmed buttons as per the TSB instructions.

it looked just like the last one... i asked them if they would put a different one in and the said that was impossible... it had to be a direct swap.

The radio that was put in my car was a UM8... I'm thinking that as much as I don't want to start frogging around, that an aftermarket radio is in my future.

They have to be able to duplicate the problem.

exactly.
if it's intermittent, then the chances of them replacing the radio are slim. My brother had borrowed my car and had the radio lock on him. He works at the dealership I got to for service, so he knows the car. Problem was solved.

Let your dealership know that there is a problem with the cobalt radios, tell them to look for bulletins. There is a bulletin that has a revised part number for the radio. If they order the same part number in the car ur going to have the same problems, tell them to check for the new part number in their service bulletins. Also if you let your battery die, you are going to have that problem.
