Having Trouble Removing Pistons from Brembos.

I'm trying to remove the pistons from my Brembo callipers so that I can powder coat them. I have watched many videos on youtube that show using an air compressor and a chunk of wood(to stop the pistons from hitting each other.

But for some reason, They wont budge......

Does anyone have any ideas or links to useful links that could help my out.

I might as well throw this out there as well but if anyone has any links to PC'ing Brembo brakes as well, I'd gladly take a look....

Thank You

They seize in there sometimes, get a small punch and a hammer and try to pop them out... A little bit of pb blaster helps as well.

just buy new ones. if they are corroded in the bores they cant be saved and brakes are worth a lot. the calipers are cheap relative to getting killed due to brake failure.

Welcome to Ontario!lol./
the problem is sitting. If there is any salt or moisture that gets in there, dissimilar metals and salt with water creates a "battery" and corrode terribly.

If you have the time, remove the dust seals and soak the caliper in a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF. I have piston kits in stock, I have also some pc red calipers I could do a deal on, that need the balance pipes which are not sold seperately.

Be careful removing the dust seals, they sit in a groove and you cant chisel them out without damaging the caliper further.

compressed air is the best bet after soaking.

good luck.

Automatic Transmission Fluid. Mixing it with acetone helps the wicking process and its a very effective home made penetrating fluid, better than pb blaster

I used to rebuild calipers, the insides are probably fine , and all can be reused as long as you dont destroy it taking them apart. I dont even need to see yours to know ive rebuilt worse and they work perfectly

You been using a piece of rubber or something you can seal the bleeder hole with wen you got the air compressor in there? You will never do it otherwise. Then one pops out, you need tp take the rubber seals off put it back in, clamp it down, push the second one out , etc

And yes pb blaster, even wd works wonders sometimes
