dexron III fluid (used in 05) is rated for 60k mile service intervals, dexron VI (06+) is rated for 100k mile service life. however, in my proessional opinion (i am a transmission tech) waiting that long isnt the best idea. gm seems to push the service intervals to the same mileage as the warrenty is up, imo this is to avoid transmission warrenty work (if you remove the pan and its full of clutch material/metal gm could be forced to overhaul the tranny under warrenty).

as i see it, you cant over service your transmission. i typically recomend to customers that the transmission should be serviced at 50k km or every 2 years for cars and small trucks not towing/hauling, every 30k km or once a year for heavy vehicles/ work trucks/towing. regular servicing will prevent the fluid from breaking down and loosing lubricity and from turning to sludge, and that can help prevent a transmission failure. better to service it more often than to have it fail.

another thing id like to throw in here is flushing a transmission is not needed if you have your fluid changed at regular intervals. its much more benificial to have the pan removed, the filter changed and filled with new fluid then to just have the fluid flushed. also, avoid lube shops at all cost for transmission services, most arent trained correctly and ive fixed lots of nightmares caused by lube shops. find a reputable transmission shop in your area and take it to them.

aamco is a shop that speciallizes in transmissions and when they do a trans fluid flush they change the filter, check for any metal pieces, then put a pan gasket on a new fluids
