For whatever reason the immobilizer no longer recognized the chip in the key. If the battery in the remote is weak or dead than this is a common problem. Put a new battery in the remote and contact a GM dealership parts department on how to program the remote/key. Most of the time you can do it yourself. If not, then the car must go to a GM dealership to have it reglashed.

if your seeing the security light it's the pass II system activated. Definitely your key or weak battery.

If it is pass key ttry getting out of ure car. Lock it wih th fob. Wait a few seconds like 10 then unlock it. Get it and start it. If nothing still its time to diagnow. Check battery connection, battery. Cablea fuses, relays, the startee, the switch, lock cylinder and so forth.

Help us help you !

What were you doing to the car before this happened.

Working on the electrical system, putting in a new radio etc.

But first check your ip ign fuse first (under the hood fuse box) ,and please use a meter to check it .Looking at it isn't good enough.
Or replace with one you know for sure is good and don't up size on the amps.

just tried the locking and unlocking thing and still didnt work. its not the battery or terminals. everything else works excet the instrument cluster, boost guage, and it doesnt start. im running out of things to check and try. might have to call the dealer tomorrow and see what they say.

i was starting to wire up the power and ground for my air/fuel guage and i go into the shed to get my test light and when i come out this kid had the power wire hooked up to the run/crank relay. i unhooked it right away cause i know not to hook wires up to relays and their was a wierd like electrical smell like something got hot. so then i go put the key in to start the car and this is where im at. not sure if he turned the key on or not cause he got scared and now wont tell me what he did. im hoping its something simple but ive checked everyting and its still not workin.

I'm positive one fuse controls all of that and it's the ip ign fuse but I will look at the prints in a minute, right now I'm busy on another computer.

When you turn the key can you feel the run crank relay click or not ,it could be fried.

Which power wire was it ,the fuse for that wire could be the culprit.

And kick the kids ass as well!

the relay is getting power and it works cause i switched some around and tried mine in my buddies ss and his still started right up so its definatly not the relay. also when i turn the key i cant hear the fuel pump run either

Looked at the prints.
Check ip ign fuse first it's 20 amps if it's good(if this fuse is bad your wipers won't work either.)
Keep the fuse out and turn the key on
Check for 12volts on the fuse contacts for the that fuse ,if you have no voltage then the relay is fried.

But as for my other suggestion turn the key off and on and see if you can feel the relay transitioning.(crank run)

There's another fuse that feeds power to that relay and fuse it's a 40amp under the hood. Those can be visually inspected.

That would be the crank fuse(30amps) and it's in the fuse box under the hood .

I was wrong on that one,,but my print shows that it's fed straight with battery power.
And as far as the fuel pump it is fed from the same power as the trunck release .
Does your trunk release still work ?

the smell came from the outside around the fuse box. i looked at all the square fuses and none of them seem blown.
