horrible day for the balt
today i was looking at scoping some deer, so i parked my car, and yanked the ebrake and took off, well about 5 mins later i hear this loud bang sound, come to find out it was my car, it rolled out of the parking lot, down a 10 foot hill and into a dead tree, just great, finally got the ss parts(exhaust and springs) on the car and now they will have to come off, i have to get a new bumper, hood, grille, radiator, dented core support, the radiator part in front of the radiator, along with who knows what else, the tow truck guy told me just to watch my gauges, so i get about a mile down the road and it starts to over heat, usually only around 190 degrees is now running around 300 degrees, so i called the insurance, but i am gonna contact gm about it and see what they say, any one wanna think of an estimate,

NEVER TRUST THE E-BRAKE!
Always leave it in gear!!
this sucks i guess everyone should tell them to check the brake before they even pay for the cars, you figure it wouldnt be hard to tighten them when they are put on the car, but i guess its just me

A few others have had the same problem as you have. One guy's SS rolled backwards into a ditch, all because he left it in neutral. NEVER leave your cobalt in neutral and use the e-brake. The e-brake is just that, an emergency brake, not a parking break like in an automatic car. Just be careful next time is all. We all learn from our mistakes. First gear IS your friend!

1st gear leaves error that the car could still possibly not saying it would but could roll down. Reverse puts aside all doubts. I've always been told reverse engages another syncrho that will not make the car budge period.
300 degrees?!?!?!?! Well, I can almost gaurentee your head will be warped. How long did you have the car running at that temperature. You probably caused some damage there. Sorry to hear about that though man
Hopefully you can get it all straightened out!!
TECHNICALLY you're supposed to leave it in the lowest ratio gear, which is typically reverse. (I think it still is on the LS/LT/LTZ/SS's.) But on the SS/SC the lowest gear ratio is actually 1st....

Reverse is the best option guys cause it is the lowest gear ratio in your car, use it whether you are facing up or down hill.
has anyone asked a dealership about this? which gear is the best to use? sometimes i wonder, when i park on a large enuf incline, doesnt it put a lot of stress on the gear/tranny? cuz im thinking its gotta hold the weight of the entire car

Screw reverse... I put mine in park! (Complete Sarcasim)
I'm sorry to hear that, that has to be a blood boiling expierence to park your car then find it roll away. I would definately see what GM has to say about it.
