How common is this???
hey guys wanted to see how common the map sensor or crankshaft sensor is to failing.. i had mine go out friday coming home from work.. went to stop at a light and after i gave the throttle a quick blurp to down shift the motor died.first i thought i killed it but it wouldn't restart..i wasn't to happy at all.. considering i payed 23,000 for a new car and to have to push it out of an intersection and people honking really set me off..theres nothing like that feeling let me tell ya.. I kept sayin to myself i should of baught a TOYOTA while pushing it.. my car only has 5,000 and stuff is already braking down on it.. what a future i have to look forward to is what i'm thinking.. my old 93 celica had 270.000 mile and never once died on me miss that old car.. Hopefully i have my car back soon though cause i can't handle this rental car long( smells lke baby vomit)..
.. the shop is also gonna take a look at my tranny to since i've been hitting a wall in 5th and reverse and replace my driver seat( latch holding the cover to the frame was never installed by the factory) but i'm praying to the car gods this is the last time this happens. atleast while i own it..

From what I've seen ckp sensor failure or malfunction in these cars is fairly common. Not so much on the maf sensor though.
main problems I've seen with the maf sensors come from aftermarket intakes or k&n oiled filters.
