I am very confused?? Why is my car only sometimes going into gear???

This problem developed a few weeks ago where sometimes when I started my car I was completely locked out of every gear. I sent it to a mechanic thinking my transmission was completely broken. Got the news that he couldn’t find anything wrong with it. All he needed to do was bleed clutch. Got the car back and seemed to be working perfectly fine until today it did the same exact thing... locked me out of every gear. Later on in the day I tried it again and now all of the sudden it works. What can I do to avoid or fix this problem? Could it possible be a TOB because mine is extremely loud. Anything helps! Thanks in advance! - 2008 Chevy cobalt ss/tc

when your having the problem does the pedal feel normal, or does it feel different (soft, spongy, etc)?

Do you have any leaks anywhere? If he bled it and it got better, and if you saying that your tob is loud, you may need another one. Will have to pull the trans to do it. How many miles on the car?

No leaks that I know of, and was just at a shop not too long ago. I only have 58,xxx miles on the car.

Can you put it into 5th or R before shifting?

When I upgraded to the GM Stage 2 clutch, I noticed it sometimes either doesn't want to go into gear, or it grinds when going from N to R. My fix is shifting to 4th or 5th, and then going into R or 1st. Not sure why it does this. I bled it a few times and it didn't really make a difference.

When it locks me out it doesn’t let me go into any gear. I did notice that sometimes it “slams” going into reverse.I have stage 2 clutch also. I wonder if this is a common issue.

Sounds like your shift linkage is out of adjustment.

Check this out and see if any of the symptom scenarios match up with what you are experiencing. Where you say it makes a lot of noise I wonder if it either has something to do with the TOB or the clutch disengagement fingers. How to Diagnose Your Own Clutch System Problems - Hot Rod Network
