I put my key into the ignition and it wouldn't turn at all. I couldn't even turn it to accessory so the radio would turn on. When the door was open the car knew the key was in there because it dinged. Also, the steering wheel wasn't locking up at first and i came back out and it locked up finally.

 

tumblers/ignition needs replaced but i dont know how to do it. happened to me but it was midnight with the windows down and the key stuck in the ignition. Car was towed home cause the driver wouldnt leave it at the dealer the way it was. next day another driver came to pick it up at my house and the ignition turned so I told him not to bring it cause the dealer would just say they were unable to reproduce the problem. that was 3 years ago and I havent had a problem since

 

I am about to go to the dealer tomorrow and pay $620 to get this issue fixed. Please laugh at me

 

Almost three years later after having it replaced, it happened again. This time, my car was on and the ignition would not move. There was a recall for the ignition, but the program only ran until January 31, 2013. Anyone have any suggestions? I know it is a bad tumbler, but how do I avoid paying $600 again?
