Unhappy The Infamous P0496

Hey guys whats up? Now I know people have had the same problem as me because I was smart and searched the forum before I decided to post. Here is my question though. For some reason my car always starts up first try no problem unless I am at the gas station. Once I put a new tank of gas in the car and go to start it, it justs sits there forever and tries to turn over. The only way it will start is if I hold down or pump the gas. As soon as it starts though If you let off the gas it dies. I have to ride the clutch and gas for the first mile or else it will die. After the mile it runs just like normal. Now I am not very knowledgeable on these cars. So here is my question. What could be causing this and is it something I can fix on my own. I have to fix this ASAP cause I am a Part Time Firefighter and I need my car to respond to calls. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

first things first

Genuine Pontiac Vapor Canister Purge Valve 2010 - 2010 - eBay (item 320580839663 end time Mar-22-11 12:21:39 PDT)

looks like prices doubled since i bought mine, but if you get that purge valve and swap it out your code will be gone, and it might fix your gas problem too since it does have to do with fuel tank pressure and all that emissions crap lol

thanks man. and rootbeer there are two valves, one on the engine the purge solenoid and the one on the canister the vent valve. the purge solenoid is the one that usually goes bad on these cars. and causes these issues ( the one you posted is the purge solenoid anyways not the vent valve)

My LNF has P0496 as well been putting it off for a long time.

Funny thing is that if i clear the code, the car doesn't act up.

The one by the tank is the canister vent valve....,and you don't have to drop the tank to change it. Replace the evap purge solenoid up in the engine bay

You literally need a $20 part, and I have no idea if warranty covers it. But I'd spend the $20 to avoid a dealer screwing up your car
