Info. temp readout

Anyone had any problems with the temperature readout for the temp outside being inaccurate? Mine reads 102 when its only 78 out. Does anyone know if whatever sensor responsible for this could cause any engine or computer problems or is it just for measuring environmental temps/

Afaik it is only for your info, has no effect on the engine - there is an inlet air temp sensor in the intake system (at the MAF?) for the engines use.

Mine reads high when the car is sitting still in the sun for a while but once I get out on the road it drops to what seems to be a much closer reading.
