Intermediate Steering Shaft Question

My car has 58,000 miles on it and is in need of it's 4th IS shaft. Does this affect the car at all other than noise? I really don't feel like paying for the deductible to have it replaced if it is just a noise and isn't going to affect anything else...

this will keep happening for the rest of the cars life...all i do is bang out the IS shaft with a hammer and it puts it back into place and stops it from making noise for 4-6 weeks. Its better than replacing it and replacing it time after time again

Dumb as it seems, any info on going about this? I've never messed with steering components, but anything else I have.

I have an extended warranty, but 200 dollar deductible, and I'd feel as though I'm throwing my money away if I get it replaced yet again. Should I even bother with it?
