Intermittent window problem

I've been having an issue with my rear window for years now. What happens is sometimes it just doesn't move down. It's intermittent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it takes a few seconds and then it works, and sometimes it just doesn't move no matter how long I try. For the last week it hasn't moved. It doesn't matter which switch I try. When I push the switch, I hear a very faint "click" in the door, but nothing happens. I'll try pulling the door trim off and lubing appropriate moving parts, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if so, what did you do to fix it?

I have the same problem. Had it "fixed" a few times while under warranty, but it keeps coming back. I believe the dealer replaced the motor, but I don't think this was the problem. I try to use the rear windows at least once per week, and this seems to keep it working. Sometimes if I wiggle the switch a few seconds, then it will start to work. I am guessing some corrosion builds somewhere up over time.

Rear Windows that roll down? I forget sometimes that the cobalts had sedans, LOL.

To me it sounds like a window switch. They are cheap as heck and easy to replace. I'd give that a shot.

Ha! I thought about specifying that it was a sedan but then I wanted to see if someone asked;-)

I'm leaving away from switch because both switches cause the issue, but it could be that both happen to be bad? I'll try it second. It also definitely tries to do something when i press the switch. In the past holding it down for a few seconds usually works but for the past couple weeks it hasn't. Just cracking the windows hadn't been enough exercise to keep it working. I'm going to take it apart sometime and try to lube strategically. Probably not this weekend tho. Other priorities.

Intermittent window problem

Both my door lock switches failed at the same time so yea its possible for the windows to do the same. Its the cheapest fix and worth a shot before replacing something like the motor

Are both rear windows separate switches? Or are they the same switch? I know there are 2 buttons for the rears, but I thought they were the same switch.

As in, both windows move when you press one switch? I don't really follow your question, and I'm not sure how the wiring is set up. I guess it's possible that the switch at the rear door had been bad the whole time and my front has been intermittent. I never use the rear switch obviously. And it could be a bad connection that is linked to both switches, kind of like how a home light can have 3-way switches.
