issues with 2.2 timing
issues with 2.2 timing
what happened to that topic on a tsb or recall about timing issues with the 2.2? i wanted to read that again. even though my car was manufactured after the recalled dates, i think im developing an issue.
every once in a while i get a bad whistle type of noise while driving. i noticed it at 55mph with very light throttle. i pushed for more throttle and heard the whistle get louder, so i let off and it went away. it wont do it all the time though. i was thinking some kind of vaccum leak or loose clamp at the throttle body but find nothing. the car also had a vibration when starting from a stop. once i release the clutch and give a little throttle, the front end sort of shimmys but is really only noticable through the steering. i also get a vibration from the engine at just above 3000 rpms with light throttle.
dont know if anyone has had such problems before, but if so id like to know. and if someone can find the topic on the timing issue again would be great since i cant seem to find it.

If I punch mine up to 60 MPH it will "whistle" in 4th and its a late model 2006. I've been thinking for awhile that is is SAI kicking in at high speeds but I have no idea if I'm right or wrong. I was under the impression that SAI only kicks in when the exhaust is cool. Since I've installed an intake on it it does certainly sound alot meaner when it "whistles" and the intake growels more than the non-SAI 2.2s I've heard. I got some freaky look from a souped up VW owner on a 600KM trip this weekend when I hit it and she picked up. If only the governor was pushed up or removed.
Its not the compressor HalfCent and there are no vaccum leaks.

sorry it took so long to reply. yes it is a 5 speed. the noise has been noticeable since like 6000 miles on it. i now have nearly 12000 miles. and so no one continues to push it, its not the a/c. it sounds like its coming from the passenger side. thats why i was thinking timing. possibly alternator or a pulley? now that i brought that up, im kind of wondering alternator now. i know gm alternators are usually noisy, and most of the time have a whine. so maybe it changed to a whistle noise now
its funny sometimes when i pass people. i watched one guy stare with a dumbfounded face, when i was going around him, as i was in third gear and the whistle came out. but of course the noise concerns me (maybe im paranoid since its a new car and i expect alot since im paying for it and freak that something is going to break that they wont warrant because im young and what ive dont to the car). its not like i can easily find it in the garage. but yeah, maybe im paranoid
